About the NIDC

The National Isotope Development Center (NIDC) manages the coordination of isotope production across the many DOE-funded facilities and, for some critical isotopes, private commercial facilities as well. The NIDC is funded by the Isotope Development and Production for Research and Applications (IDPRA) Program within the Office of Nuclear Physics of the DOE Office of Science.

The NIDC also manages the sales and distribution of these isotopes through the Isotope Business Office (IBO). This includes requests for quotes, rental and sales contracts, invoicing, and referrals. It also handles transportation issues (containers, export, licensing, shipping schedules), and also provides a number of special services for customers.

Additionally, the NIDC has a mission to improve public relations with stakeholders and to educate the public through outreach activities on the important role that isotopes play in society. These outreach activities include newsletters, meetings, summer schools, and advocacy for the needs of the customers.
